Turf Nutrition Services

Round One Application – Pre-Emergent

This is an exciting time of year. Spring is approaching, so I’ll hit the road in the next few weeks! I plan on being out in the first week of April for Round 1 of the 2024 season – contingent on Mother Nature.

Round 1 is one of the most critical applications of the season as the pre-emergent herbicide (Prodiamine) suppresses crabgrass. The product is sprayed on your lawn, watered in, and activated in the soil. It acts as a vapor barrier under the surface to prevent weeds from emerging – mainly grassy weeds like crabgrass.

The hybrid-organic fertilizer will also feed your turf and soil, providing a green-up and slow-release feeding through April and May. This product is packed with nitrogen, potassium, and organic matter to help stimulate the soil microbes.

And as with every Round, I’ll spray liquid nutrition and spot-treat broadleaf weeds (chickweed, plantain, ground ivy, etc.).

  • Hybrid-organic fertilizer
  • Crabgrass pre-emergent
  • Liquid nutrition and micronutrients
  • Soil amendments and biostimulants
  • Broadleaf weed control

Soil Test & Analysis

For year one customers, I’ll be out grabbing soil samples to send into the lab for analysis. Once the results return, I will share them with you so we can work on a plan to correct the soil over the next couple of seasons.

  • Magnesium
  • Sulfur
  • Phosphorus
  • Potassium
  • Iron

Early Spring Checklist

Product Spotlight – Humic Acid

Ever wondered what exactly humic acid is and why it matters for your lawn’s health? Let’s dive in!

🍃 What is Humic Acid?

Imagine tiny sponges in your soil, soaking up nutrients and holding them there for your grass to use. That’s the power of humic acid.

Humic acid, also known as humus, is essentially decomposed plant material packed with beneficial microbes and essential micronutrients like hydrogen, nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. It acts as a vital bridge between the soil’s nutrients and your plant roots, unlocking the soil’s goodness for optimal absorption. While it’s not a fertilizer on its own, it sets the stage for your lawn to thrive when paired with fertilizer applications.

✨ Benefits of Adding Humic Acid to Lawns

  • Boost Nutrient Storage: Humic acid acts like a bridge, helping your grass absorb essential nutrients from the soil.
  • Improve Water Retention: This helps soil retain moisture, reducing watering needs and keeping your lawn hydrated during dry spells.
  • Nutrient Chelation: Facilitates the uptake of essential nutrients, maximizing their availability to your lawn.
  • Enhance Soil Structure: Improves soil texture and aeration, creating an ideal environment for root growth.
  • For All Soil Types: Whether you have sandy or clay soil, humic acid can enhance soil quality, making it beneficial for all lawn types.
  • Healthy soil, healthy grass: Humic acid improves soil structure, drainage, and aeration, creating a thriving environment for your lawn.

At Lawn Phix, we include humic acid in all our liquid nutrition applications. It’s the cornerstone of our approach, setting us apart in delivering comprehensive lawn care and turf nutrition solutions.

A little humic acid can go a long way in achieving a healthy and lush lawn.

A Chip Off the Old Block

My son Brayden is turning 11 soon and has expressed interest in traveling with me this season. While he may be riding his bicycle around your neighborhoods (and not the Tufco as you see in this picture), he’ll also be learning some tricks of the trade and keeping me company from time to time.
