The short answer

That’s the fact that gives the word “humane” its real meaning here — with relocation restricted, it usually means on-site release or euthanasia. Both can be defensible. Neither is what most people picture, and an operator who answers straight is telling you something useful about how they work.

Relocation. Relocation restricted; permit required for most species. Ask any operator directly where the animal goes, legally, in this state. A straight answer is the signal.
Bats are protected everywhere, and there is a maternity window — here, roughly May through August — during which exclusion is prohibited because the pups cannot yet fly. Sealing in that window kills them inside the structure.
Exclusion is the durable half. Removing an animal from a good site doesn’t make the site less good. If a quote is priced purely on catching the animal, it’s a job you will buy again.
Where this stops being a DIY job
Rabies-vector species — raccoons, skunks, foxes, bats. If anyone has been bitten or scratched, or a bat has been in a room with a sleeping person, that is a call to a doctor or public health immediately.
Dependent young, in any species, in any season. Sealing then kills them inside the structure.
A burrow under a foundation, slab or deck footing. The question becomes how much soil has moved from under something bearing load.
