What it’s for
Prodiamine is our spring pre-emergent, but our crabgrass preventer roundup names Pendulum 2G as the best option for fall. It blocks hairy crabgrass, poa annua and other weeds that germinate later in the year.
The label lists more than 40 grassy and broadleaf weeds, including crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail and chickweed. It’s a pre-emergent only, so it won’t kill weeds that are already up. Our poa annua guide explains why late-summer timing matters.
How to use it
Our roundup recommends applying in early fall once soil temperatures drop below 55°F, with split applications possible through the year. It notes control lasting 6 to 8 months.
We don’t yet have a confirmed turf rate per 1,000 sq ft for this page; the roundup says one 40-lb bag covers up to 17,400 sq ft. Check the turf rate on the label before spreading.
Don’t use it on lawns you plan to overseed: the label requires at least 3 months before reseeding or overseeding. Sweep granules off driveways, patios and stone right away, because pendimethalin stains. Use caution on bentgrass and zoysia. Keep people and pets off for 24 hours.
